Carolina Music Ways: Stokes County

Stokes County is the only county in the United States to boast its own mountain range, the Sauartown Mountains. The county, bordered by Virginia on the north and cut diagonally by the Dan River, is home to Hanging Rock State Park, which offers a range of recreational, educational, and cultural activities. The county also lays claim to many talented heritage musicians. Heritage music events, many which feature bluegrass and gospel music, can be enjoyed year-round in county downtowns, parks, restaurants, and churches.
