Old-time stringband music is fiddle-tune based. Surry County's “Round Peak” style has a world-wide following.

Our region is home to some of the foremost bearers and supporters of the tradition today. More public venues for jamming and performance are opening and are being rewarded by the devoted audiences the music attracts. Surry County, a hotbed during the old-time folk revival of the 1960s and ‘70s, is still considered a mecca by many aficionados of the genre.

To understand how our region's old-time stringband scene fits into the bigger picture, you can go to www.oldtimemusic.com/otdef.html for information on the development of old-time stringband music in the South.
