Description of Event: After
dinner Saturday nights, the tables are cleared to make way for music
and dancing. Local musicians
perform bluegrass, gospel, and country, while diners and others who come
for the entertainment join in on the fun. Owners Judy and Joseph Henry Bowman
hold clogging and flatfoot dancing contests and give door prizes.
History of Site/Event: The Bowmans have run O-Henry’s since 1978, with
music featured from the beginning.
The Bowmans also operate the Pollirosa Restaurant in Forsyth County,
which also offers music on the weekends. Toe-tapping music and down-home
southern cooking have been the pride of the Bowmans
for decades.
Description of Site/Facility: The casual, family-run, roadside restaurant seats 100 in the
dining area. A music room, which
includes a platform for dancing, enhances the music and dancing
experience.
Significance of Site/Event to the
Community: The restaurant offers a friendly place for
locals to enjoy the music and foods they love. Many are regulars. The setting offers visitors an
opportunity to sample the local cuisine and culture up-close-and
personal in an unpretentious setting.
