Description of Event: The
bluegrass and gospel musicians, who
sometimes come from as far away as Galax, Virginia, perform from a stage in
the dining room, where diners can linger. Porky’s
specializes in pit cooked barbecue, both pork and chicken. The rest of
the menu, all southern fare, is homemade.
History of Site/Event: Holbert Hall operated his pit-cook restaurant,
Hall’s Barbecue, for 45 years and added music in the early
1990s. In 2003, he rented out
the business, and the new management changed the restaurant’s
name to Porky’s Pit.
Description of Site/Facility: Formerly an old garage, this casual, friendly restaurant seats
200 and includes a stage at one end.
Significance of Site/Event to the
Community: This Yadkinville eatery has been a community
landmark for decades. The
weekend dinner and music attracts local regulars, as well as travelers
passing through on their way to such places as Boone and Chapel Hill.
