History of Site/Event:  Local musicians Frank Bode, Paul Brown, and Vernon Clifton started the Mount Airy Hometown Opry in the mid 1980s.  Eventually the Surry Arts Council took on the monthly series, which had developed a loyal following, and changed its name.

Significance of Site/Event to the Community:  The Jamboree reflects an event begun by well-known local musicians and preserved by the local arts council, an organization committed to showcasing regional music traditions performed by area musicians.
