Location:
Downtown Elkin. (166 East Market St.) From Winston-Salem, take US 421 to I-77 North. Head north on I-77 and exit at Exit
82. Take NC 67 west 2 miles into
Elkin. Or from Winston-Salem, you can take Reynolda
Road until it turns into NC 67 and drive
west all the way until you get to Elkin. (The Friday night music takes
place at Elkin
Municipal Park, ½ mile from downtown. A
pumpkin weigh-in will happen downtown, and event organizers will be
happy to give directions.) Click

Description of Event: This
family-oriented festival takes place mostly on Main Street in downtown Elkin,
though the Friday evening band concert featuring Big Band era music
takes place in Elkin
Municipal Park, ½ mile from downtown. On
Saturday, there is a music stage in the center of downtown with
bluegrass, gospel, country, and blues performances; a food court that
most years features barbecue and country food; a crafts area;
children’s activities; a 5k run; and of course, a pumpkin
contest.
History of Site/Event: The event began in 1997. The town of Elkin started the
event, the mayor’s project, and the chamber took over.
Description of Site/Facility: Historic Downtown Elkin is quintessential small-town America. A number of historic buildings remain
and have attracted new businesses.
Nearby Elkin
Municipal Park has
a walking trail, playground, tennis courts, and a band shell for
concerts.
Significance of Site/Event to the Community: The Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival celebrates
the area’s agricultural roots and identity, as well as brings
additional business to downtown Elkin merchants.
