Description of Event: Every Monday night,
Cranford Creek leads members of the Pilot Mountain community in
stamping, clapping, and singing bluegrass, country, and gospel hits,
with an emphasis on bluegrass. The band members are from this area.
Mona Jo Griffin from Mocksville plays the 5 string banjo, Kreisler
Speas of Pfafftown lead sings and plays the guitar, Pat Gravitte
plays the stand up bass, and W.R. Gravitte, the leader of the group,
sings while strumming his rhythm guitar. Throughout the night, the
group holds periodic drawings for McDonalds hamburgers, ice cream,
and fries.
History of Site/Event: W.R. and Pat
Gravitte attended a similar event in the King McDonalds in 2004.
They were inspired to try something similar, and after approaching
the Pilot Mountain McDonalds, began playing every Monday night.
Description of Site/Facility:
The music stage is set up in
the playroom of the restaurant. Seating is provided, but some
bring their own chairs.
Significance of Site/Event to the Community:
Cranford
Creek Mondays provides a place for members of the surrounding
community to gather. People of all ages come to dance and enjoy the
music, but the event is particularly popular with Pilot Mountain’s
older population. These musical gatherings help keep people active
while connecting to other members of the community, the band, and
the music.
