Description of Event:  From April through September, the musical portion of Friday Night on Main takes place on the lawn of the historic Danbury Courthouse and is called “Pickin on the Porch”.   Then when the weather cools off in October through March, the music goes indoors to a coffeehouse format at the Artist’s Way Café.  Local bands perform mostly bluegrass, with occasional nights of folk and jazz.  Food is available at the café.

The Stokes County Arts Council and the Dan River Art Market. are located alongside the café and are open for the event, with a gallery exhibit and opening for the month’s featured artist at the Arts Council, as well as handmade items for sale by local artists and crafters at the art market.

History of Site/Event:  The event began as “Pickin on the Porch” in 2001 and was held only April through September.  It was so successful that the Stokes County Arts Council decided to hold the musical event year round and collaborated with Artist’s Way Café to do so.  The gallery opening and art market shopping were included to make this an evening for the arts in Stokes County.

Description of Site/Facility:  Danbury is known as "The Gateway to the Mountains" and retains much of the character it developed as a 19th century mineral springs resort.  The town exudes country charm and history.  The Artist Way Café is a cozy coffee house venue suitable for an enjoyable night of music and food.  The lawn of the historic courthouse is an attractive setting for an outdoor night of music.  Danbury is small and the establishments along Main Street are all within walking distance.

Significance of Site/Event to the Community:  Friday Night on Main builds on the historic charm of the area and serves as a catalyst to bring a diverse group of residents of the town and surrounding communities together each month.  The event also provides another public venue that showcases the region's exceptional musicians and artists.
