Description of Event:
This is a cheerful, homey, family-friendly
restaurant . Many enthusiastic listeners of all
ages enjoy the music and food in a festive and
upbeat atmosphere.
On Thursday and Saturday, patrons enjoy listening to
quality area musicians play bluegrass music,
sometimes with some classic country thrown in.
Friday night is gospel night, mostly bluegrass
gospel. Musicians perform at the front of the
restaurant. While patrons either sit at tables and
eat or sit in chairs directly in front of the
musicians.
History of Site/Event:
The business opened in
1991. The Polly in Prissy Polly's is the mother of
founder, Loran Whaley. The restaurant is run by
Loran, his wife and children, and the family has
considerable training and experience in the food
industry.
Music began in
2006, though the original idea was born in 1994 when
the owners ran their business in a smaller location.
Moving to the larger site enabled adding music.
Description of
Site/Facility: This
is a popular restaurant in commercial
district featuring both Lexington and Eastern style
barbecue. Old- fashioned memorabilia decorate walls
in a colorful dining room. A variety of southern
food options is available in addition to barbecue.
Significance of
Site/Event to the Community: The
event offers local veteran musicians an opportunity
to perform. It also provides an opportunity for
listeners of all ages, both locals and visitors, to
experience high-quality traditional music of the
region in an easily accessible setting.
