Event/Site:
Center Fair at Center Arbor in the Center Community
Date: Friday and Saturday following Labor Day.
Music begins around 1:00pm and continues until the fair ends at 6:00pm.
Exhibit registration is from 4:30pm - 9:00pm on Friday, and Saturday
morning until 9:00am. Judging is at 9:30am on Saturday.
Type: Two-day fair featuring regional bluegrass and
gospel musicians, exhibits, and barbecue cooked on-site.
Location: The Center Arbor is located in the
Center community right off I-40 at the US Hwy 64 exit at exit 168. Take
the US
64/168exit and turn right onto Hwy 64 west. The parking lot of the fair
will be on your left and you will see the tin roof of the arbor.

Description of Event:. The entertainment stage at the
fair features a regional headliner and other local bluegrass, blues and
gospel musicians. Past performers have included the popular Danny
Wicker and Mel Jones, and the well-known Cockman
Family. The local fire department cooks barbecue on-site and more than
300 exhibitors bring their canned goods, flowers, artwork, handicraft,
and other exhibits for display and competition.
History of Site/Event: The Center Fair has been going
on for more than 50 years, according to fair organizer Doris Williams. Davie
County has also enjoyed longtime
use of the arbor site.
Description of Site/Facility: The Center Fair takes
place at the old Center Arbor and its surrounding grounds, a gathering
place for Davie
County folks
since the 1700s. The facilities come complete with ball field, restored
log cabin, and barbecue pit.
Significance of Site/Event to the Community: The
Center Fair is the only fair in
Davie County
featuring traditional fair competitions and attracts many people for
its interesting exhibits, fine regional music, and excellent barbecue.
