Description of Event: Monday evenings
at the Music Barn begin about 6:30 with a covered
dish supper. Many of the people who come to the barn
are retired, love to cook, and bring enough good country
cooking to feed those who show up hungry, often from
80-120 people. Gospel music and singing starts at
7:30 and lasts about thirty or forty-five minutes,
so that everyone who wants to sing gets a chance.
Then the renowned Mr. Prevette and his band Carolina
Country play bluegrass and country music for the crowd
to sit back and enjoy or dance to. Mr. Prevette invites
other musicians to join the band at times during the
evening. Dance caller Ken Beck will call at least
two squares and a couple of line dances. The barn's
floor is wooden and welcoming to experienced dancers
as well as beginners. Mr. Beck teaches line dancing
during the music breaks.
(Lawrence Prevette also plays at the Pollirosa in
Tobaccoville on Friday nights, and his records are
often featured on WBRF 98.1-FM.)
History of Site/Event: Mr. Prevette
and his wife Ann started the event in the late 1980s.
Over the years word has spread about the Monday night
food, music, dancing and fellowship the Prevettes
share with friends and visitors.
Description of Site/Facility: About
15 years ago, Lawrence Prevette started converting
a 1927 dairy barn behind his home into a place where
his friends and neighbors could get together to enjoy
the traditional music they love. He took out the loft
and stalls, added a gas heater, air conditioning,
and some chairs and opened the doors to the community.
Significance of Site/Event to the Community:
The fellowship and appreciation for regional music
radiates far from this little Davidson County community.
Mr. Prevette is not exaggerating when he describes
Monday night at Rocky Acres Music Barn as… "the
fellowship is unbelievable, the music is unbelievable,
this a community that just loves traditional music."
The deep respect and high regard for Mr. Prevette's
musicianship and for the Preivettes' warm hospitality
is region-wide, and the community is justly proud
to share and participate in it.
Note: The Prevettes also host charity benefits
for local causes on Sunday evenings throughout the
year. Please contact Mr. Prevette for further details.
