Description of Event:
Bluegrass
listeners congregate in the park’s 2,000 seat
amphitheater to enjoy music. Food is
available, such as chicken tenders, rib eye
sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, and funnel cake.
The festival features national acts, such as Third
Time Out, Alicia Nugent, and Larry Stevenson.
History of Site/Event: The Denton
Bluegrass September event, begun in 2006, was
inspired by the success of the Doyle Lawson
Bluegrass Festival, held each May at the FarmPark.
In 1981, Doyle Lawson began that event as a
family-friendly alternative to rowdier festivals.
This new fall festival continues that same spirit of
family-friendly bluegrass.
Description of Site/Facility:
Formerly the Denton Airport, the Denton Farmpark is
a 100-acre museum park with pastures and meadows;
exhibit building; covered music pavilion; and a
variety of restored old buildings, including a
country store, post office, and blacksmith shop;
bath and restroom facilities; food and refreshment
buildings; camping areas; a significant collection
of antique farm machinery; and a working steam
locomotive on the 1.5 mile Handy Dandy Railroad.
Significance of Site/Event to the Community:
This is a relatively new event that the Farmpark
plans to grow into a significant event.
